Abraham Ancer Scholarship

The Abraham Ancer Scholarship is named after the former STPGA Junior Golfer turned World Class Professional Golfer, Abraham Ancer. With Abraham’s support, the STPGA will have a lasting effect not only on the individual who is looking to further their education, but on their entire family. 


This scholarship will be awarded to an individual who is excellent on the golf course, in the classroom, as well as in their community. All graduating Seniors and current college students are encouraged to apply.

Bill Sitton Sr. Scholarship

The Bill Sitton Sr. Scholarship is named after the father of STPGA Member Billy Sitton and was created to assist aspiring college-bound students further their education. The recipient and his or her family will have the assurance that this financial support should assist them to obtain an undergraduate degree.

BraeBurn Country Club Scholarship

This scholarship is courtesy of the BraeBurn Country Club Membership and the Southern Texas PGA Section Championship that took place in 2023 at BraeBurn Country Club. This scholarship is one of the many ways the membership gives back to the community, as well as helps the next generation achieve their golf and academic dreams.


All STPGA Foundation Scholarship Applicants are eligible for this scholarship.

Carol Mann Scholarship

Carol Mann is one of the 100 Heroes of the first 100 Years of American Golf. She is the winner of 38 LPGA Championships, including the US Women’s Open. In 2018, Carol passed away at the age of 77. Fellow STPGA Professionals Alan Hodde, Ben Willman, EJ Kim and Bob Kirkelie launched this scholarship to honor Carol in 2014. 

Charlie Epps Scholarship

Started in 2021, this scholarship was started in honor of STPGA Past President Charlie Epps. Mr. Epps has been a fixture in golf in Houston for over 40 years and continues his good work with The Spirit Golf Association. 

Dick Harmon Scholarship provided by the Harmon Family Foundation

The Dick Harmon Scholarships are named for the former Southern Texas PGA Member that was one of the most respected PGA Professionals and Golf Instructors in the country. 

Eddie Burke Sr. Scholarship

This scholarship is named after Eddie Burke Sr. Eddie was a former player at The University of Texas at Austin and played on the team for the legendary Harvey Penick. Eddie was also the director of golf at Champions Golf Club, founded by his brother, Jackie Burke Jr. While at Champions, Eddie focused his teaching efforts on developing the junior golfer. He believed junior golf and amateur golf were the lifeline of the sport and love the positive character development that it brought out in people.

Energy Transfer Scholarship

Originally referred to as the Lone Star NGL Scholarship, Energy Transfer is the title sponsor of the Texas Senior Open and money raised during the Pro-Am preceding the championship raises money to award this scholarship. Energy Transfer has been a partner of the Southern Texas PGA since 2013.

George Hannon Scholarship

This scholarship is named after the former University of Texas golf coach from 1963 to 1981, George Hannon. Coach Hannon passed away at the age of 93 on October 19, 2017.

Hill Country MGA Scholarship

The Hill Country MGA each year honors a member that has made an extraordinary impact on the Hill Country Men’s Golf Association.


Students who live in or attend schools in the Highland Lakes area of the Texas Hill Country and have been accepted to a college or university located in the state of Texas are eligible.

Insperity Invitational Scholarship

The expanded partnership with the STPGA and the Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare, the annual PGA TOUR Champions event held each spring at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course brought forth this scholarship in 2024. At the 2024 event, 1 Boy and 1 Girl from the STPGA will receive the first ever Insperity Invitational College Scholarship, to continue their educational aspirations.

The Insperity Invitational Scholarship will be awarded to 1 Boy and 1 Girl who currently reside in the Greater Houston Area, play or have played on the Srixon Billiard Factory Prestige Tour, will play golf at the collegiate level and display high moral character.

Jay Hebert Scholarship

The Jay Hebert Scholarship is named for PGA Tour player Junius Joseph “Jay” Hebert. Mr. Hebert won seven times on the PGA Tour including the 1960 PGA Championship. Jay passed away in 1997 and he is the father to Southern Texas PGA Member Jean-Paul Hebert. 

Jeff Morton Scholarship

Named after long time STPGA employee, Jeff Morton who tragically died from a heart attack, is awarded for his long time love of the golf industry. 

J.L. Lewis Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is named in honor of PGA Tour and PGA of America Golf Professional J.L. Lewis, who had a lengthy career as both a PGA Club and PGA Tour Professional. As a club professional J.L. was sectional player of the year once in the Southwest Section and 3 times in the Southern Texas Section. J.L. went on to win twice on the PGA Tour and competed multiple times in all 4 major championships.

John & Ginny Termeer Memorial Scholarship

Named after the parents of STPGA member Steve Termeer and siblings Teri, Sharon and Tim, the John & Ginny Termeer Memorial Scholarship was created to perpetuate John & Ginny’s memory and the significant impression they left on the golf community. 

Levy Cup Matches Scholarship

This scholarship is given out whenever the Southern Texas PGA hosts the Levy Cup Matches. The Levy Cup Matches is an annual event in the Northern and Southern Texas Sections. 


Established in 2017, the Levy Cup Matches were created to honor Paul Levy who is a Past President of the PGA of America where he served his term from 2017-2018. The inaugural Matches were hosted October 15-17, 2017 at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas. The Northern and Southern Texas PGA Section’s alternate hosting the event each year.

Murphy Family Scholarship

Started in 2022, this scholarship was created as a way for long time PGA Teaching Professional Jim Murphy to give back to the next generation. Jim Murphy has consistently been a Top 100 Teacher in the country and a proud member of the Southern Texas PGA. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving young man or woman looking to further their education but also someone who loves playing golf!

Texas Golf Hall of Fame - Joe Black Scholarship

The Texas Joe Black Cup Matches is annually the most anticipated competitive event in the Northern and Southern Texas Sections. This fiercely contested rivalry between two sister sections is marked by close matches, dramatic shots, uncompromising sportsmanship, and friendships that last lifetimes.


Awarded the following year after the Southern Texas Team wins the Joe Black Cup Matches.

Tommy Aycock Scholarship

This scholarship is named after the longtime PGA Professional, Tommy Aycock, who distinguished himself as a club professional and competitive golfer throughout his career.
